Jack L. Age 89, of Gaines, PA, formerly of Fallsington, PA, died Saturday, April 23, 2005, at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro, PA. Mr. Thomas was the husband of Katharine (Sipes) Thomas. He was born on November 24, 1915 in Betula, PA, a son of Clifford and Mary (Burdick) Thomas. Jack retired from U.S. Steel in 1978 after 25 years of employment. He was a member of the Steel Workers Union. He was a member of the Pine Creek Valley United Methodist Church, Gaines, PA. Among his favorite pastimes were snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, working with stained glass, and playing bluegrass on the harmonica. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Marines. Jack is survived by his wife, Katharine; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jack G. and Deanna Thomas of Montana, Craig Thomas of Wellsboro, PA; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol E. and Edwin Hellings of New Holland, PA; five grandchildren, Reed Thomas, Julia Hauptman, Timothy, Todd and Thomas Hellings; and eight great-grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Sunday, May 15, 2005, at 4 p.m. at Pine Creek Valley United Methodist Church, Gaines, PA, with the Rev. David K. Shultz officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pine Creek Valley United Methodist Church, Rte. 6, Gaines, PA 16921. Jacquelyn A. Buckheit Funeral Chapel, Crematory & Monuments, P.C. 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
