Mr. Wise age 84, of North Palm Beach, Florida passed away at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center on Friday evening, February 10, 2006. A native of Washington County, Pennsylvania, site of the Wise Homestead (circa 1763) and raised in Waynesburg, Ohio, Mr. Wise served his country during World War II in the United Sates Navy Submarine Service. He was a graduate of Denison University, Granville, Ohio, a member of the Ambrose Swasey Society and a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. An investment banker by profession, Mr. Wise started his career in 1946 and devoted 25 years as a Principal on Wall Street before joining William R. Hough & Company, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida in 1973. He served the company as a Senior Vice President until retirement in 1996 to become a Consultant. Mr. Wise was a member of the Municipal Bond Club of New York, The Municipal Study Group, The Storm Trysail Club, The Block Island Race Week Committee, Larchmont Yacht Club, AOPA, Tubal Lodge #551 Free & Accepted Masons, Minerva, Ohio, The Exchange Club of the Northern Palm Beaches where he also served as past President, North Palm Beach Country Club, First Presbyterian Church in North Palm Beach and the church Mens Breakfast Group. Mr. Wise was active for many years in offshore sail racing and boating with his sons and his friends. He was preceded in death by: his beloved wife of 49 years, Barbara Shaw Wise, who died in 1999; a daughter, Karen Tarquini, who died in 1983; and a sister, Virginia Clare Wise, who died in 1926. Mr. Wise is survived by his six children: Jodie (Jim) Hayes of Boulder, Colorado, Peggy (Randy Shaw) Pearson of Palm Beach Gardens, William Blaine (Diana) Wise of North Palm Beach, Carol (Mark) Griffith of North Palm Beach, Ted Wise of North Palm Beach, Diana (Mark) Finney of North Palm Beach; 21 grandchildren: Collin Tracy, Bill (Molly) Tracy, Molly Hayes, Carrie (Chris) Meyer, Tyler Pearson, Quincy Pearson, Lindsay Pearson, Alexis (John Quinn) Wise, Ashley (Chris) Lisk, Afton Wise, Patrick Burke, Riley Burke, Mark P. Griffith, Kelly Griffith, Grace Wise, Kendall Wise, Caitlin Finney, Allison Finney, Valerie (Gary) Franklin and Mark Tarquini; one great-grandchild, Emma Wallace; one brother, Sidney D. (Dana) Wise of Gainesville Florida; many nieces and nephews. A memorial service of celebration and thanksgiving for the life of Joe Wise will take place at First Presbyterian Church in North Palm Beach on Saturday, February 18, 2006 at 2 P.M. with Reverend Walter B. Arnold III, Pastor, as celebrant.
