DAWSON,JANET THERESE, 71Ocala - Janet Therese "Jan" Dawson, 71, of Ocala passed away October 12, 2012 at her home after a courageous two and one half year battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Mineola, Long Island, NY, she came to this area in 1967 from West Hurley, NY. She was a homemaker and a member and daily communicant at Our Lady of the Springs Catholic Church. Jan was an avid golfer with a single digit handicap. She won many local championships and in 1980 was heralded by the Star Banner as the "Tom Watson of local women's golf." She is survived by her daughter, Ann Therese Hotaling of Ocala; granddaughter, Danielle Bierema of Gainesville, FL; sister, Ann Leifeld and her husband Bert of West Shokan, NY; nephew, B.J. Leifeld and his wife Lynn of West Shokan, NY. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Kenneth A. Hotaling and her second husband, Sherwin W. "Pappy" Dawson. A Funeral Mass will be said at Our Lady of the Springs Catholic Church (4047 NE 21st Street, Ocala) on Wednesday (Oct. 17th) at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Marion County, PO Box 4860, Ocala, FL 34478.
