WHITEHEAD, JAMES EDRIS James Edris Whitehead, age 91, of Alabaster, AL died Sunday, April 29, 2012 in Birmingham. Mr. Whitehead was a native of Mississippi but lived in Alabama most all of his life. He served fourteen years in the military and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War where he served as Captain Core of Engineers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Marie Whitehead; daughter, Sandra Jo Nelson; son-in-law, Robert Wayne Nelson, Sr., one sister, Christine Whetstone; and his parents, Robert Calhoun Whitehead and Plumer L. Cole Whitehead. Mr. Whitehead is survived by his son, Larry Whitehead (Andrea); daughter, Carol Webster (Hal); his dear friend, Hellen Simmons; his twin brother, Robert E. Whitehead (Jo); his younger brother, Maj. Gen. Leslie E. Whitehead, M.D.; Granddaughters, Sheila Thompson, Rhonda Nelson, Tiffany Webster, and Alexa Whitehead; Grandson, Robert W. Nelson, Jr.; Great Grandchildren, Edria Nelson, Jessica R. Lape (Wesley), Justin Catlin, Nellby James, Andrew VanDyke, Maddie VanDyke, Zachary Padgett, Jacob Padgett, and Brooks Padgett; great great grandchildren, Elijah Lape and Kaylee Catlin; Nieces and Nephews, Kay Botters (Richard), Joy Thoennes (Rick), Vicki Hail, Lee Mann (Donna), Beverly Parks (Jack), Leslie Kay Christopher (David), Robert Whitehead (Norma); many great nieces and great nephews. Services will be held on Friday, May 4, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. at Valhalla Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Strange officiating. Burial will follow in Valhalla Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends Friday, May 4, 2012 from 11:00 A.M. until time of service at Valhalla Funeral Chapel. . >>
