CHICOPEE - Irene R. (Angers) Larose, 80, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Sunday January 16, 2005. She was employed as a head cook by the City of Chicopee School Department for 25 years and worked at various schools throughout the city, retiring from the Barry Elementary School. She was born in Holyoke on January 17, 1924 a beloved daughter of the late Stanislas and Lillian E. (Fournier) Angers. She lived in the Willimansett section of Chicopee before moving to Aldenville in 1960. In December, Irene moved to the Arbors on Memorial Drive in Chicopee, where she was often asked to sing and entertain the residents. She left school at an early age to support her family and in 1984 was the proud recipient of her High School Diploma after attending night school for several years. She was a communicant of Saint Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville where she was an active member of the choir. She also was a member of the Ladies of Saint Anne Sodality of the church. She was a member of the Aldenville Senior Center and a longtime volunteer for the Council on Aging in Chicopee. She often volunteered for the senior lunches which were served at the Knights of Columbus Elder Council 69 on Granby Road in Chicopee. She was a member of the Singing Swinging Seniors in Chicopee and was in many of their shows. She also was in numerous Minstral Shows that were sponsored by the AJAC in Aldenville and the George Burns Chorale of Holyoke. She volunteered for many years at the Fairview Council 4044 Knights of Columbus spaghetti suppers. Her beloved husband, Ernest L. Larose, was Called Home on January 4, 1981. She leaves her loving children, Gerald E. Larose and his wife Linda of Columbus, OH, Robert L. Larose and his wife Toni of Westfield, Ernest R. Larose and his wife Cecile of Chicopee and Daniel T. Larose and his wife Debbie of Tolland, CT. His eight cherished grandchildren, Philip Larose of Springfield, Robert Larose of Westfield, Charlene LaPlante and her husband Kevin, Jennifer Larose and Stacey Larose, all of Chicopee, Chantal Larose, Tristan Larose and Ravel Larose, all of Tolland, CT. Her two cherished great grandchildren, Jessica LaPlante and Nathan Ernest LaPlante. Her dear sisters and brothers, Alice Gagnon and her husband Richard of Chicopee, Leonard Angers and his wife Phyllis of Ridge Manor, FL, Claire Witkos and her husband Donald of Portsmouth, RI and Ronald Angers of Holyoke and her many dear nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her dear brothers, Roland, Raymond and Ernest Angers and her dear sister, Yvette Sicard. Her funeral will be held Thursday morning January 20, 2005 at 9:30 a.m. from the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, 13 Dale Street at the junction of Grattan Street in Chicopee followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street in Aldenville. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Rose Cemetery on Olsen Street in Aldenville. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home in the Rose Chapel on Wednesday January 19, 2005 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home off of Lafayette Street. For those who prefer to make a memorial donation, they may be made in her memory to the Saint Rose de Lima Church Memorial Fund, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
