Hugh R. Carmichael -->Hugh Richard Carmichael, 89 years of age, a lifelong Braintree resident, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, after a brief illness. He was born March 28, 1926, in Braintree. He was the son of the late Marshall H. Carmichael and Marion (Sickels) Carmichael. Hugh was a World War II Navy veteran, serving on the USS Panamint (Agc-13), a communications ship in the north and south pacific. Hugh and his father owned and operated the H.M. Carmichael Cement company in Braintree for over forty years. His company was known for being manufacturers and innovators in the concrete industry. Hugh was a daily customer at the South Braintree and Weymouth locations of Dunkin Donuts where he would sit and enjoy his coffee and donut while visiting with his friends. Hugh was an original member of the Tumbleweeds Motorcycle Club of Brockton. He will he will be remembered for his sense of humor and his love of animals. Hugh is survived by his sisters, May Thomas of Whitman and Lillian Gilbert of Florida. Hugh will be fondly remembered as Uncle Richie by his many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Hugh is also survived by many cousins; and a devoted friend, Rick Campot. There will be a visiting hour for Hugh at the Mortimer N. Peck-Russell Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington Street, Braintree, Monday, May 18, from 10-11 a.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home following the visiting hour at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
