Funeral service for Hilda Whatley Thomas "Madea", 89, will be on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at noon at the Seventeenth Street Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Cedric Duncan officiating, the Rev. Carlos Woodard, eulogist. Interment will follow in Anniston Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Thomas passed away on February 6, 2015. A wake will be this evening 5-8 p.m. at the Russell H. Williams Memorial Chapel. Mrs. Thomas's remains will arrive at the church one hour prior to her services. Mrs. Thomas retired from the Calhoun County School System. She was a member of Ideal Friends OES #118, Heroines of Jericho T. Jackson and Tolliver Court #5, Cyrene Crusaders Love and Unity #5, Golden Circle Clayton Pearson Assembly #202, Daughter of Isis Khedive Court #46, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Life member Iota Mu Omega Chapter, Dorcas Art & Social Club. Survivors include her sister, Virginia (Roy) Sebastian, of New London, Conn.; grandchildren, Markas Thomas, of Washington, D.C., LaConya T. Massey, Quincy, Jessica P. (Cedric) Cunninghamall, of Anniston, Barry (Diawanna) Purnell, of Oakgrove, Ky., Kayla Purnell, of Shorter, Ala.; great grandchildren, Jasmine and JaMyia Massey, Lamyeriah Harris, Breyanna Purnell and Ziriah Cunningham; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tillman and Lillie Crook Whatley; husband, Alfonzo J. Thomas Sr.; son, Alfonzo J. Thomas Jr.; siblings, Dr. Booker (Lottie) Whatley, Rosa Hamilton, Doris I.
