THOMAS, Helen Ruth Was born March 5, 1923 in Sayre, Pennsylvania, to Fred and Helen Thomas. She had two older siblings, Robert Thomas and Lois Miner (Thomas). After graduating from high school, Helen studied voice at the Juilliard School of Music, but was advised to not pursue a career in music because of acute sinus problems. She attended Ithaca College before beginning a career in 1948 in the emerging commercial aviation industry. Helen was one of the first stewardesses for Ithaca Airlines. She later became the Executive Assistant to the President of Mohawk Airlines, where she was the liaison between the president's office and all the functions of the airline. Helen left the airline industry in 1964 and moved to Washington, DC, where she worked in Human Resources at Group Health Association. Helen lived at Culpepper Gardens, Arlington, VA, and passed away in her home on December 20, 2007. Helen died of a stroke in her sleep. She is survived by three nephews, Russell Miner Jr. of 42 Birchwood Ct., Foresthill, CA 95632, Gregory Miner of 617 Nancy Jane Lane, Downingtown, PA 19335 and Jack Thomas of 6361 Roberts Dr., Victor, NY 14564 and their children.
