Helen M. (Backer) Age 100, of Nichols, NY, passed away Tuesday, October 19th, 2004. She graduated from Waverly High School in 1922 and attended Geneseo State College, receiving a degree in Library Science. Helen was a much loved teacher and librarian in many area rural schools including Lockwood, Smithboro-Canfield, Tioga Central and Owego-Apalachin school districts. She was predeceased by Clifford Park, her husband of 54 years, and is survived by a son, Gaylord Park of Zephyrhills, Fla.; her grandchildren, Jaime Park, Jon Park and Pamela and Bob Jordan; great-granddaughter, Brieanna Park and her mother, Mary Pillsbury. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of special friends. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 26, 2004, at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Main Street in Nichols. Friends may call at the church from 12:30 until time of service. Burial will be in the Park family plot at the Nichols Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Disabled Veterans or any charity of choice. Caring assistance is being provided by the Cooley Family of the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols.
