Helen Metcalfe It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Helen Metcalfe at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, SK on January 2, 2010 at the age of 86. Helen was born August 25, 1923 in Edmonton, AB She worked in a manufacturing plant in Ontario during WWII. This is where she met and married George Metcalfe on April 17, 1943. They then moved to Saskatoon and raised their family. Helen took joy in participating in her Tops club at St. George's Parish, the Royal Canadian Legion Women's Auxiliary, and bowling leagues at the King George Bowling Alley as well as various activities at her home, King Edward Place. She was a very special lady and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Helen will be lovingly remembered by her two sons: Eric Metcalfe and Terry (Irene) Metcalfe; her daughter: Joyce Metcalfe; five grandchildren: Adam (Kathy) Ewart, Jeff (Tracey) Metcalfe, Jenny (Brian) Foreman, Nadean Grieman and Lauren Grieman; her sister: Lil Holowaychuk; her niece: Naomi (Ron) Ponech; five great-grandchildren: Draysen, Jake, Dallin, Dawsen, and Seth; as well as numerous relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, George; and her siblings, Kay and Irene. A special thank you to Dr. Joe Chin and the nurses and doctors at the Royal University Hospital 6200 ward and the ICU department. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Saskatoon Funeral Home, 338 4th Ave. N. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saskatoon Cancer Centre (20 Campus Drive Saskatoon, SK S7N 4H4) or Canadian Breast Cancer Network (331 rue Cooper St, Suite 300 Ottawa, ON K2P 0G5).
