Wells, Maine - Helen E. (McGuane) Haley, 92, of Wells, a former longtime Ayer resident whose decades as an educator in town included serving as the high school's principal, died Monday, April 14, at the York Hospital in York. She was the wife of Francis Haley, who died April 11, 1986.She was born in Ayer on July 20, 1910, a daughter of the late James E. and Annie G. (Markham) McGuane. She graduated from Boston University.Mrs. Haley resided in Ayer most of her life before moving to Maine nearly 20 years ago. For almost 40 years, Mrs. Haley taught English in the Ayer schools. She later became principal of Ayer High School before her retirement in the late 1960s.She was a former member of St. Mary's Church in Ayer as well as the Catholic Daughters of America and the Massachusetts Teachers Association.She is survived by two sisters, Mary Doherty of Port Jefferson, N.Y., and Margaret Sullivan of Del Ray Beach, Fla.; also several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late James McGuane and Gertrude McGuane.
