Whitman Harry E. Sherman, 84, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, after a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of Mary D. (Cercello) Sherman. Born and raised in Whitman, he was a son of the late Henry F. and Anna E. (Schuler) Sherman. Harry was a veteran of World War II, having served overseas in England, Scotland, France and Germany, while in the U.S. Army Air Corp from 1943 to 1947. He worked as a self-employed carpenter and was a member of the VFW and the Satucket Rifle & Revolver Club. He loved hunting, fishing and gardening. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed golfing all year long. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Mark E. Sherman of Whitman; his daughter, Diana M. Sullivan of Virginia; and his sister-in-law, Laura Sherman of Whitman. He is also survived by five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Henry J. Sherman and Ethel Picavet. His services will be held Saturday, Aug. 30, at 2 p.m. in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 at the rotary), Whitman.
