Gilbert Allen of Danville, IN., passed away peacefully on March 14,2014. Born to Horace H. & Ann (Tiedman) Allen on March 10, 1931, in Corning, NY, He married Helen "Sue" Lytle in Lawrenceburg, KY in 1954. Gil was a mechanic, having spent 30 years in the commercial freight truck business. He maintained his position as the company changed from Motor Freight to Branch Motor Freight to Campbell to Yellow Freight, retiring in 1985. He worked several years for Ditch Witch in Danville In., retiring again in 1996. He was a member of the Teamsters Local No. 135. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Survivors include his wife Sue, sons Chuck (Connie) Allen of Addison, NY, Tom (Leslie) Allen of LeCanto, Fl, Bob (Becky) Allen of Danville, IN, Randy (Kelly) Allen of Danville, IN., Joe Allen of Palm Coast, FL, Jim (Cheri) Allen of North Salem, IN, Steve (Barbara) Allen of Peru, IN. 14 grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren. Brothers, Donald Allen of Tappahannock, VA, Edward (Peg) Allen of Corning, NY. Sisters Marian (Bob) Seeley of Campbell, NY, Barbara (Joe) Lacy of Sugar Land TX, Carol (Elmer) Smith of Campbell, NY, Judith Kilroy and Richard Rumsey of Bath NY. Sue (Bob) Mutter of Augustine, FL, Charlotte (Lee) Swarthout of Campbell NY, Audrey Northrop of Port Orange, FL, Diana Ketchum of Bath NY, Millicent "Millie" Curtis & Donald Rice of Port Orange FL. Predeceased by his parents, a grandchild, three brothers Emory, Jack & Richard Allen. A celebration of life will be held April 4th from 3pm to 7pm at Ellis Park Train Station in Danville, IN, with services to follow at 7pm.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hendricks County Humane Society, Danville, IN 461222.
