DEFREESTVILLE Gertrude H. Turner Wheeler, 90, formerly of Stow Avenue, Troy, died suddenly Thursday, December 29, 2005 at Albany Memorial Hospital. Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late John Turner and Annie (Hanby) Turner and wife of the late Irwin J. Wheeler. She had resided in the Troy area, on Stow hill, for many years. Mrs. Wheeler was employed as a Montgomery Ward service and parts department representative in Menands for 15 years, retiring 25 years ago. Prior to that, she worked at Marvin Neitzel in Troy, Cluett Peabody & Company and was a homemaker for many years. She was a member of the Rebekah's, Order of the Eastern Star, Church of the Good Shepherd in Green Island and Green Island Senior Citizens. She was an avid card player and was impossible to beat. She is survived by her son, James I. Wheeler (Wendy) of Defreestville; five grandchildren, James, Mark, Eric, Hoss and Hannah; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, John H. Turner, Horace F. Turner and William G. Turner, and a sister, Isabelle Hill. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc., 276 Pawling Avenue, Troy. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 4-7 p.m. Interment, Elmwood Hill Cemetery in Troy.
