COBB, George Mark M.D., C.M., F.R.C.S. (C), F.I.C.S.It is with tremendous sorrow we announce the recent passing of George Mark Cobb who died in his 84th year at Rouge Valley Health Centre, Ajax, Ontario, following a lengthy illness. George is survived by his only child, daughter Karen Cobb (ON), brothers William Cobb (BC), and Wallace Cobb (NL), sister Elizabeth Reynolds (NL), half-brother Lewis Cobb (NB), cousin John Cobb (AB), and nieces Rebecca Cobb and Sharon Moloney (both in BC). Born in St John's, NL, to George and Frances Cobb, the family lived in many communities as a result of his father's vocation with Federal Customs. George graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland with a B.Sc., followed by an M.D. with first class honours from Dalhousie University Medical School, NS. He then obtained speciality certification in both Radiology and Ophthalmology with top honours from the University of Toronto, ON. He was an extremely well respected eye physician and surgeon having practiced in several provinces including Ontario, Newfoundland and New Brunswick, before retiring in 1995. Throughout his life and in retirement, George had an intense passion for sailing, fine woodworking and reading. A perfectionist if there ever was one, he was often described by friends and family as a genius. Although these traits made for a challenging man and father, daughter Karen, who referred to him as her guiding light of intelligence and inspiration, and best friend, will forever miss him dearly, Karen wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Price, Amanda, Christine and all the staff on 2N at Ajax Rouge Valley Health Centre. George lived his last two years under their wonderful care and professional services. Karen also extends a special thank you to William Cobb, aka Uncle Bill, who has and continues to provide unwavering support which will be forever remembered and appreciated. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd. St. John's, NL, A1B 3P2 (ph. 709-722-2730). Relatives and friends may visit at Carnell's on May 30, 2015. Funeral Service will be held on May 31, 2015. In accordance with George's wishes Interment will take place in the Anglican Cemetery, Seldom, Fogo Island, NL, on June 2, 2015. Further details will be announced at a later date.
