George Harold Jordan, 86, of Centre, passed away Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at Redmond Regional Medical Center.Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, at Unity Hill Baptist Church in the Bomar community, where he was a member. The Rev. John Redding, the Rev. Melvyn Salter and Dr. George Cobb will officiate. Burial will follow in Cherokee Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.Pallbearers include Richard Lindsey, Rich Lindsey, Danny Ingram, H. Dean Buttram Jr., Wallace Lyons, Tom Wade Hampton, Pete Lemons. Honorary Pallbearers will be all customers and employees of Cherokee Gin and Cotton Co.Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Geraldine Steele Jordan; daughter, Freida Jordan (Nick) McMichen; grandchildren, Mindy Geraldine McMichen, Matthew George McMichen; several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his brother, Tom Brock Jordan.Mr. Jordan was a native of the Bomar Community in Cherokee County, where his family farmed, operated a gin and ran a cotton merchant business for over 100 years. He was currently farming and co-owner of Cherokee Gin and Cotton Company in Centre. He was a graduate of Cherokee County High School and Murdocks International Cotton School in Memphis, Tenn. George, also known as "Fishhook," was active in the community, serving on several local boards, and was known to all as a magician and trickster. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II.
