December 24, 2006 George Douglas Hale, 77, of Naples, FL, and Charleston Lake, Ontario, died December 24, 2006. He was a member of St. Ann Church, Naples, and St. Denis Church in Athens, Ontario. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In 1952 Doug married Peggy Smith in their home town of Syracuse, NY. Doug enjoyed a long and distinguished career with Black & Decker Manufacturing Company in Towson, MD. He served as president of the Canadian subsidiary in Brockville, Ontario, from 1966 until 1973. During this period he served on the boards of many charitable and civic organizations in Brockville and eastern Ontario. Although his job assignments sent him back to the United States, he and Peggy always maintained a summer cottage at Charleston Lake. He retired as president and CEO of the company in 1987. During retirement, summer months were spent at Charleston Lake. His love of the lake and his Canadian friends motivated him to found the Charleston Lake Environmental Association. He dedicated himself completely to the success of this organization and the positive environmental impact it will have for generations to come. In Naples he was a co-founder of St. Ann School and Moorings Park Foundation, served on the city of Naples Employees Pension Board and was a director of Moorings Park. He is survived by Peggy and their two sons, Kevin C. Hale (Marlene) of Naples and George Douglas Hale II (Jennifer) of Walworth, WI; three grandsons, Christopher, Carson and Nash; granddaughter, Teagan; and two sisters, Marilyn Hunt of Rochester, NY, and Jean Jenkins of San Francisco, CA. A memorial service was held at Bower Chapel at Moorings Park on Friday, December 29, 2006, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a requiem Mass on Monday, January 15, 2007, at 11 a.m. at St. Denis Catholic Church in Athens, Ontario. Memorial contributions in Doug's name are suggested to Moorings Park Foundation, 120 Moorings Park Drive, Naples, FL or to the Charleston Lake Environmental Association (CLEA), P.O.
