ANDREWS, George John July 7, 1929 - January 14, 2009 It is with sadness and regret that the family of George John Andrews, late of Edmonton, announces the passing of a wonderful spouse, father, grandpa and friend. George was a great mentor and support for his children, and helped many friends along the way. He worked hard his whole life, never passing an opportunity to grow personally or professionally and always applied himself fully to whatever task he undertook.Throughout it all, he set an example by maintaining great balance and always keeping his family first - strong character attributes his family were raised with and will carry on. He is sadly missed by his spouse of 49 years, Anne Patricia; children, George (Gay), David (Barb) and Carmel (Kevin) and his adoring grandchildren, Liam, Riley, Meghan, Stephanie and Adelle. George also leaves a sister, Maureen (John) Logan in Scotland; his brother, Patrick in Ireland and many dear cousins and family in both Canada and Ireland. Born in Limmerick, Ireland and married Anne Patricia (nee Murphy) on May 18, 1959 in Dublin, Ireland. He had an exciting career working in Uranium mining and on the Distant Early Warning system (DEW Line). He retired from the trucking industry in 1990 and created his own successful classic auto appraisal business which operated for over 15 years retiring again in 2005. A strong believer in life long learning and very active in community organizations like; Toastmasters, Knights of Columbus, Post War Car Club and the Studebaker Car Club. George was a founding member of the Alberta Fleet Maintenance Supervisor's Association. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 9830 - 148 Street, Edmonton on Monday, January 26 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Jozef Wroblewski as celebrant. Cremation has taken place. Many thanks for the compassion and care of Dr. Todd, Dr. Dosang and all palliative care staff at St. Joseph's Auxiliary Hospital. Should anyone choose, donations may be made in George's name to St. Joseph's Auxiliary Foundation, 10707 - 29 Avenue, Edmonton, AB T6J 6W1 - they indeed exemplify the very best of humanity.
