ROCHESTER ; George L. Andrews, 67, formerly of Wayland, Mass., died unexpectedly on Sunday, May 18, 2008, in the comfort of his family at the Frisbie Memorial Hospital.He was born in Waltham on Aug. 10, 1940, the son of the late George R. Andrews and Hannah (Horgan) Andrews.George is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Miriam E. (Vlass) Andrews of Rochester, formerly of Cochituate Village. He was the devoted father of Robert G. Andrews and Jeffrey P. Andrews, both of Watertown. He is also survived by his sister, Kathleen Johnsrud and her husband, William, of Manitowoc, Wis. He is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.George had been a lifelong resident of Wayland before retiring with his wife, Miriam, to Rochester, in September of 2005. He was a graduate of St. Charles High School in Waltham with the Class of 1958 and attended Boston University and Bentley College. He served his country proudly during the Vietnam era with the U.S. Army Signal Corps at Torri Station in Okinawa. He had a long and distinguished career as an industrial tool salesman for Black and Decker in Boston and retiring after many years of service with Woodworkers Warehouse in Revere.George was a founding member of the Wayland Baseball Association and served as a past president of the Wayland Youth Football Association. For many years he dedicated many unselfish hours as a coach for the St. Ann's CYO Basketball League and also coached his two sons, Bobby and Jeff. He also spent time with the travel baseball and basketball teams with the Town of Wayland. While at Boston University he excelled as a basketball player. He was an avid baseball and basketball supporter in the local area and could be found watching games at area high schools and the local baseball fields. George was an avid and accomplished golfer and played on many of the PGA courses throughout New England. He was a dedicated fan of the Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics. He loved to spend time with his family and in recent years traveling with his wife Miriam to Europe and throughout the United States. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.Visitations will be held on Wednesday, May 21, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Bryant Memorial Chapel of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road, (off Route 30) Cochituate Village, Wayland.Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Thursday, May 22, at 9 a.m. followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Zepherin Church, Route 27, Cochituate Village, Wayland.Interment will be in the Andrews family lot in Lakeview Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, his family suggests gifts in his memory may be sent to the Jimmy Fund, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226, Attn: Contribution Services.Visit the online guest book at www.fosters.com/obits
