FRED THOMAS YORK, BM2, US NAVY (RET)1929-2008Fred Thomas York was a native of Marked Tree, Arkansas and had resided in Memphis, TN before moving to Pensacola in 2000.He served his country in the US Army, and later retired from the US Navy as a BM2 with 20 years of service. After his Navy career he worked for GFK Construction Co. in Memphis for 20 years. Fred was a member of the Fleet Reserves for 35 years and a member of Ferry Pass United Methodist Church.Preceding him in death were his parents; Charles and Lena York and brothers, Chalen and Raymond York.Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Lena A. York; a son, Richard (Donna) York; grandchildren, Karen and Jonathan York; sister, Myrtie Busby of MS; brother, Howard of AK; sister-in-law, Susan Rigione of FL and numerous nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008 from 5:30-7pm at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel and graveside services will be held on Monday, Sept. 22, 2008 at 10:15am at Barrancas National Cemetery with Rev. Nancy Warner officiating with full military honors provided.In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Alzheimer's Research Family Services, 1901 N. Palafox, Pensacola, FL 32501.The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Baptist Manor for their care and support to Mr. York and his family.HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.
