Francis William McCarthy, 79, of St. Augustine, died March 9, 2003 at Flagler Hospital. He was born in New York, N.Y., but spent 30 years in Upper Mt. Clair, N.J., before moving to St. Augustine five years ago. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the European and Pacific theaters. He later retired as vice-president of Management Information Systems with Blue Cross Blue Shield of N.J. He was a pioneer in use of computers to manage business operations, having started in the field in 1958.He had served on the boards of West Essex Rehabilitation Center and of Project LINK, both in N.J. He was also a member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church.Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anastasia Catholic Church. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at St. Anastasia Catholic Church, with prayers being said at 5 p.m.In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Gerard House, P.O. Box 4382, St. Augustine, FL 32085 or St. Anastasia Catholic Church Building Fund, 5205 A1A South, St. Augustine, FL 32080.He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Dorothy McCarthy, St. Augustine; daughter, Gianna McCarthy, New York, N.Y.; two sons, Kenneth McCarthy, Tivoli, N.Y., and David (Joani Gudeman) McCarthy, Chicago, Ill., and two grandchildren, Jacob and Samuel McCarthy.Craig Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.PAID NOTICE(Please sign the guest book at www.staugustine.com)
