Frances Irene Hopper AMHERST, NS - Frances (Fran) Irene Hopper, age 76, of Amherst passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Center, Upper Nappan, N.S. Born in Amherst Head, she was a daughter of the late Claude and Margaret (Beaton) Chapman. Fran was raised in Groves Point, Cape Breton with her aunt Johanna Bain and cousin Catherine. After graduating from St. Charles Commercial School in Amherst she worked at T. Eaton Co. and later for Murdock Motors and retired from Tantramar Motors. Fran was a member of Trinity St. Stephen's United Church, Amherst and an active member of the U.C.W. She was an avid Bridge Player and was a member of the Amherst Duplicate Bridge Club as well as the Coffee Bowling League. Fran enjoyed spending her summers at her cottage with Ralph at the Amherst Shore. She enjoyed knitting, gardening and sewing. Fran was a devoted mother and loving grandmother and will be sadly missed by her family and many friends. She is survived by her husband, Ralph; sons, Michael (Sheila) of Riverview, N.B. and Paul (Eileen) of Amherst; sisters, Joyce (Jim) Shephard of Florida, Catherine Seaman of North Attleborro, Mass, and Phyllis (Victor) Chapman of Moncton; step sister, Florence Bezanson of Isaac Harbour, N.S.; grandchildren, Wesley, Nathan, Eric and Bradley; and several nieces and nephews. Fran was predeceased by her brother, Edwin; and her step brothers, Guy and Dana Smith. Cremation has taken place. Her family will receive visitors at Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst, N.S. on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. from Trinity St. Stephen's United Church, Amherst with Rev. Allan Griffin officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in the Amherst Cemetery.
