TEWKSBURY -- Father Olivier Renaud, OMI, 82, a resident of Tewksbury, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Residence in Tewksbury, after a long illness.He was born in Lowell, April 5, 1924, son of the late Joseph W. and Eglantina (Lessard) Renaud and was one of six children.Father Renaud made his first vows as a Missionary Oblate of Mary Immaculate on August 2, 1944 in Colebrook, N.H. He completed his Philosophy and Theology studies at the Oblate Major Seminary in South Natick. He was ordained to the priesthood on Feb. 2, 1950 at his home parish, Notre Dame de Lourdes, in Lowell by Bishop John Wright. He was also honored on Feb. 2, 2000 as he celebrated his Golden Jubilee of Ordination at Notre Dame de Lourdes. His celebration was attended by many Oblates, members of his family and friends.The first assignment he received as a newly ordained priest was to the Oblate Minor Seminary in Bucksport, Maine where he taught for two years, followed by seven years as a professor at the Major Seminary in South Natick. He completed one year of parish ministry at St. Jean-Baptiste in Lowell. Following this, Father Renaud spent an impressive 46 years as a retreat master at three Oblate Retreat Houses: St. Paul Center in Augusta, Maine, Immaculate Retreat House in Willimantic, Conn., and Ephpheta Retreat House in Manville, R.I.Due to failing health, he retired in January 2005, moving to Immaculate Heart of Mary Residence in Tewksbury where he remained until his death.He is survived by his Oblate family, including his cousin, Father Arthur Obin, OMI, St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Riviera Beach, Fla.In addition, Father Renaud is survived by two sisters, Irene Renaud of Lowell, and Doris Hubert of Dracut; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.He was also the brother of the late Leon, as well as two other brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond Renaud and his wife, Charlotte, Donald Renaud and his wife, Dorothy, and brother-in-law of the late Eugene Hubert, husband of Doris.
