Francis Joseph "Coach" Tierney, age 75, of Brewster, NY, husband of Lenore (McKiernan) Tierney, died Friday, November 16, 2001 at his home after a brief illness. Mr. Tierney was born February 3, 1926 in Manhattan, NY, the son of the late Francis J. and Margaret (Nestor) Tierney. He graduated from LaSalle Academy in New York City, Mt. St. Mary's College and Manhattan College and received a masters in Education from Columbia University. He received his administrative masters from Western Conn. University. He served in the US Navy in World War II and Korea. Mr. and Mrs. Tierney were married July 2, 1949 at St. Bernard's Church in Saranac Lake, NY. Mr. Tierney was a physical education teacher with the Yonkers School System earning the nickname Coach, and later became principal of Lincoln High School, serving the Yonkers School System for a total of 30 years. He retired in 1983. He was a member of St. Lawrence O'Toole Church in Brewster, the Knights of Columbus, a life member of the New York State PTA, the VFW post 672 and the American Legion both of Brewster and for many years had been active with the Town of Southeast Recreation Commission. In addition to his wife Lenore of the home address, he is survived by four daughters Lenore (Mrs. Thomas) Cunningham of Brewster, Maura (Mrs. Jon Olson) Tierney of No. Granby, CT, Patricia (Mrs. Keith) Kenel of Cedar Rapids, IA and Kerry (Mrs. Kenneth) Tripoli of Schenectady, NY, son-in-law Stephen Lezon of Dover Plains, NY, two brothers Justin Tierney and Kevin Tierney, one sister Margaret Byrne, 16 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two daughters Alice Tierney Lezon and Kathleen Tierney and sister Joan Courtney. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, November 19, 2001 at 11 am at St. Lawrence O'Toole Church, Brewster. Interment in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Brewster. Friends may call at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Francis J.
