JACKSON Emily Edith Passed away peacefully two weeks before her 96th birthday on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at Queen's Park Hospital in New Westminster. She was born March 24, 1913 in Burnaby to Phoebe (Lil) (Hall) and Thomas Castle Jackson. Edith is survived by her cousins Josephine Karen of Vernon, Vera Hall, Joyce Hall, Margaret Hall and Patricia Hall, all of New Westminster, and Les Hall (Audrey) of Maple Ridge as well as many relatives in Canada, England and the United States. Edith attended Lowndes Business School before going to work at the Provincial Mental Hospital at Essondale as a clerk stenographer. She later moved to work at the Burnaby Mental Health Centre where she held the position of Chief Medical Record Librarian. She spent her childhood and most of her adult life in the house that her father built on 17th Avenue. She was able to recount stories of cougars and a myriad of other wildlife in the nearby woods from her early years. Edith was an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority for many years, enjoying excursions and trips and keeping up a lively correspondence with her sorority sisters. She and her best friend, fellow sorority member Edna Henshaw, took many memorable trips throughout Western Canada and the Western United States and venturing overseas to Australia in 1975. In her spare time, Edith was skilled and creative at both knitting and crocheting, creating many beautiful pieces which have become family heirlooms. Edith was a devout and dedicated lifelong member of the parish of St. Albans Anglican church in Burnaby. Church was a very important part of her life and she took the religious teachings to heart, striving for personal improvement. She will be remembered for her thoughtfulness to others. Edith's funeral will be held at St. Albans Anglican Church, 7717 - 19th Avenue, Burnaby on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at 1:00 p.m., Rev. Faun Harriman officiating. Interment will be at the Forest Lawn Cemetery.
