CHELMSFORD -- Elizabeth "Betty" E. Lagasse, a No. Chelmsford resident who enjoyed working in her garden, and doing craftwork with her grandchildren, died yesterday, Feb. 20, at Wentworth Nursing Home in Lowell. She was 74.She was married to George Lagasse with whom she celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 21.She was born in Malden, on Oct. 30, 1931, the daughter of the late George C. and Mary A. (Kavanaugh) Helms. She was a 1951 graduate of St. James High School in Haverhill.Mrs. Lagasse was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in No. Chelmsford, where she belonged to the Blessed Sodality.Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Elaine Lagasse-Burke and Dermot Burke of Bell, Fla., Anne Morris and her husband, Brad of Nashua, N.H., and Kathleen Lagasse of Manchester, N.H.; a son, William Lagasse of Chelmsford. Mrs. Lagasse was the proud grandmother of three grandchildren, Stephanie Morris, Kevin Morris, and Kristen Burke. She also leaves a sister-in-law, Genevieve M. (Duggan) Helms of Atkinson, N.H.; a sister and brothers-in-law, Rita I. Galvin of Reading, Everett G. Lagasse of Haverhill and James and Marie Lagasse of Haverhill; also many nieces and nephews.She was also the sister of Ralph B. Helms of Atkinson, N.H., who died on Jan. 1, 1994, and the sister-in-law of the late Lillian Marion Sullivan and Joseph D. Lagasse.
