->BANGOR and PORTSMOUTH, N.H. - Elizabeth Davis Toole, formerly of Bangor, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at The Edgewood Center, Portsmouth, N.H., at the age of 102. Elizabeth was born on Oct. 15, 1910, in Bangor, and was the daughter of the late Mabelle (Kelley) and Frank Michael Toole.Elizabeth attended John Bapst High School and lived in Bangor most of her life with the exception of a period between 1943 and 1955 when she moved to Worcester, Mass., to keep house for her widowed uncle, Frank Kelley. On her return to Bangor she was an active member of St. Mary's Parish where she taught CCD for 27 years. She was also a greeter and was involved in the Spread The Word activities of the parish including visiting the elderly in nursing homes up to her 90s. Throughout her life, Betty exemplified her Christian ideals by caring for others who needed her help. She was a positive and forgiving person who was eager also to share a good time. She was blessed with an abundance of good friends including a friendship with her late lifelong friend, Mary Agnes (Mooney) Richards, and her daughters, Mary Julia and Cathy Richards, as well as her special friend, Betty Grogan of Eliot. Elizabeth's family gratefully thanks the competent, compassionate staff of the Edgewood Center for their kindness, attention and devotion to Betty and to her family as she spent her last few months in their care.Elizabeth's sister, Caroline Rich, predeceased her in 1989. Surviving are her nieces, Margaret Rapp of Raynham, Mass., Virginia Augustini of North Hampton, N.H., Barbara Merriman of Brooklin, Judith Valette of Miami, and Christina O'Toole of Longmont, Colo.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ohio Street, Bangor.
