July 8, 2005 Elizabeth Casa, age 84, of Walnut Street Extension, Auburn, NY, passed peacefully into eternal rest on Friday, July 8, 2005, at home with her beloved family by her side. She was born in Auburn to Dominick and Michelina Palermiti, both of whom were natives of Italy. She lived most of her life in Auburn, but also spent time in Chicago when her husband attended school. She also lived in Germany for a year with her husband and children in the early 1960's. Liz, as she was known, was an exceptional student and graduated from both Auburn High School and Auburn Business School. She spent most of her career working in Auburn. She began by helping her parents at their store, Palermiti Grocery, at 132 Clark Street. She also worked at Firth Carpet in Auburn. Most of Elizabeth's career, however, was spent at the administrative office of the Auburn Enlarged City School District, where she was the personal assistant to Paul Kleiber, who became the longtime superintendent of schools. Later she worked for several years as the legal secretary to Richard Malcolm, Esq. She was predeceased by her parents and by her two brothers, Leo Palermiti, M.D., and Frank Palermiti, Ph.D. Liz is survived by her husband of 59 years, Thomas Casa of Auburn, and two children, Michele (Robert) Allan of Skaneateles, NY, and Michael (Ruby) Casa of Johns Island, South Carolina. "Gram", as she became known, had five grandchildren and one great-grandson, all of whom she loved, cared for, and respected deeply. Her grandchildren include Michael Allan, Esq. of Alexandria, Virginia, Elizabeth (Edward) Moro and Katharine Allan of Skaneateles, NY, and M. Jacob (Tammy) Casa and Alexandra Casa of Charleston, South Carolina. Her great-grandchild is Alexander Moro of Skaneateles, NY. Liz was famous for her love of old movies, trivial pursuit games, and her amazing culinary skills. She was beautiful, decent, honest, caring, and she doted on her family. She conducted herself with a sense of grace and elegance and infused a sense of calm and love in all those who encountered her. Even in her last days she had a smile and a word of encouragement for those around her. For all that Liz was, she will best be remembered for her absolute commitment and devotion to her children and grandchildren. She brought her family's history into the present so that each of her descendants knew that they were part of a much larger family. To all who knew her, she was unforgettable. Funeral services were private and were arranged by Robert D. Gray Funeral Home of Skaneateles. Burial was at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Fleming. The family is very grateful for the amazing assistance from the nurses and staff of Hospice and would appreciate contributions to Hospice of the Finger Lakes.
