PHELPS - Eleanor (Fisher) Wheeler, 76, of Phelps, passed away peacefully to her eternal home on Wednesday (October 31, 2012) at the Clifton Springs Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family.There will be no prior calling hours. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday (November 23) at 1pm at the Spa Apartments Chapel.In lieu of flowers, please direct memorial gifts to, Beverly Animal Shelter, 50 East River Road, Waterloo 13165; or Happy Tails Animal Shelter, Humane Society of Ontario County 2976 County Rd 48, Canandaigua 14424.Eleanor graduated from Phelps Central School in 1954. While waiting for her fiancé to return from service in the Korean War, she went to work as an operator at AT&T.She was a happy stay at home mom during her girls early years and then went to work at Midlakes High School cafeteria becoming cafeteria manager of the Teft Avenue Middle School until she retired in 1991. She devoted her life to her family and in her leisure time enjoyed waking, bicycling, cross-stitch, reading and her pets. Her beautiful pictures adorn her home and are treasured gifts to her family and friends. After retirement she and her husband enjoyed their home in Cape Coral, Fla and were avid square dancers. Time spent with their children and grandchildren were her greatest joy.Eleanor is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Frederick L. Wheeler; two daughters, Karen (Russell) Williamson and Linda (Robert) Foley; five grandchildren Ryan and Sean Williamson and Madeline, Neil and Nora Marie Foley.Eleanor was an only child but has three brothers in law, Don (Carol) Wheeler, Roger (Joyce) Wheeler and Gary (Ginny) Wheeler; four sisters in law, Dorothy (John) White, Freda (David) Mumford, Diane Acresti and Sandra Wheeler; several nieces and nephews; special dear friend, Marlene Mayeu.She was preceded by her parents, Harold and Irene Lyon Fisher; brothers-in-law, Francis and Leo; and sisters-in-law, Betty Drooby, Marjorie Haines and Janet Simmons.Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Cheney Funeral Home, 70 Main Street in Phelps.
