Edward Charles HamonIt is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward Charles Hamon on Friday, November 15, 2013 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Predeceased by his parents, Emma (Massier) and Charles Hamon and brother-in-law Terry Stott, he is survived by his wife of 65 years Kay (Katherine Wilhelm), son Tom and daughter-in-law Tracy (Brucker), granddaughters MacKenzie and Callan, brother Robert (Ivy) Hamon, nephew Greg (Sonia) Hamon, nieces Sandra (Terry) Thompson, and Shannon (Tony) Angell, sister-in-law Mary Stott and nieces Lois-Anne, Sydney and Sarah. Ed started his insurance career with the original SGIO in 1945, working his way up to Agent Superintendent before moving to Global Insurance in Vancouver. After two years on the coast Ed purchased Ross and Simmons Agency and moved his wife and son back to Regina. Morley Lockhart soon partnered with Ed and the insurance company of Hamon and Lockhart was formed. After numerous years, the business became Ed Hamon Inc., which was eventually sold to Dusyk & Barlow, where he enjoyed his last years working for that company. Ed took on the role of mentor to the younger staff and was treated with much appreciation and respect. We thank Dusyk & Barlow for all of their kindness to Ed and we will always hold them in high regard. After nearly 65 years in the insurance business, Ed reluctantly retired in January 2012 due to health issues. Not only did Ed love his job, he also valued his colleagues and clients, many of whom he treated like family and some of whom became lifelong friends. Ed was actively involved in many volunteer groups, and in the past served as President of the Optimist Club of Regina, eventually becoming a life member. Some of his last work with the Optimist Club involved organizing the youth oratorical contests and he enjoyed working with the young speakers. He was also a life member of the Honorary Order of the Blue Goose and served as President for the Insurance Agents of Saskatchewan. Ed's love of golf led him to serve as President of the Wascana Country Club, and he had many lively nights at the club. Our thanks go out to the staff of the Pasqua and General Hospital emergencies and special thanks to the staff of the Pasqua Infusion Clinic who always looked out for him. Thanks to the staff of the William Booth Convalescent Unit and the staff of his last stop, the Santa Maria. We would especially like to thank Dr. Zamon, the good-humoured Dr. Duffy and Ed's good friend Dr. Jim McHattie. Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 190 Massey Road, Regina, SK. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Santa Maria Care Home. Arrangements entrusted to:
