AUGUSTA -- E. Jean Andrews, 82, a resident of Augusta, died Sunday, June 30, 2013. She was born in Augusta on March 29, 1931, the daughter of John C. and Mary E. (Donoghue) Andrews.Jean was educated in the Augusta school system, graduating from Cony High School in 1949. She continued her education at the University of Maine Orono, where she earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education. After graduation, she taught for one year in Providence, R.I., before returning to Augusta to teach kindergarten for 39 years, fulfilling a rewarding career. Over the years she had been greeted by many of her former students she would meet on the street and prided herself in remembering the names of most. Jean was active in local organizations over the years and was a member for more than 50 years in Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and The 49'ers Group.Jean is survived by her brother, John C. Andrews Jr., of Augusta; as well as the ladies of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and The 49'ers Group.Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, July 15, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1 Church St., Augusta, where a celebration of her life will follow at 11 a.m. A committal service will be in Providence at a later date.If desired, contributions in Jean's memory may be made to Kennebec Valley Humane Society, 10 Pet Haven Lane, Augusta, ME 04330; or the E.
