THOMSON, Dorothy Frances On September 28, 2009 at the Ottawa General Hospital after a brief illness. Dorothy was born on November 15, 1924 in McAdam, New Brunswick, the only daughter of Annie Belle Drake and Romayne Gross Hoyt. During World War II she worked for the CPR in McAdam, then put herself through Acadia University after which she taught Secretarial Science at Mt. Allison University. There she met and in 1956, married her husband George Henry Thomson. In 1966-67 she took a Masters of Library Science degree at the University of Michigan. She was a special librarian at Boston University in Massachusetts, 1967-69. Thereafter she moved with her husband to Ottawa where she was an associate librarian at the University of Ottawa until her retirement in 1989. She is remembered by her husband of 53 years George Thomson, her husband's nephew Steven Barry (Barbara Sheffield) and niece Paula Barry (David Sadler), four great-nieces, Paula Marie Barry (Greg Mercer), Catherine Sadler, Margaret Sadler and Victoria Sadler and one great-nephew Robert Sadler (Carla Foote) and Robert's son Gabriel. Dorothy is also survived by her many cousins and will be fondly remembered by her friends and colleagues in Ottawa. Funeral Service will be held at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street (at O'Connor), Monday, October 5th at 1 pm, followed by a reception. Donations in Dorothy's memory may be made to the Ottawa Art Gallery, 2 Daly Ave., Ottawa, Ontario K1N 6E2.
