Dorothy "Dottie" Stevens, 87, of Colonia, N.J., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 7, 2014. She died at home with her family by her side. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 10, at 9 a.m. in the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Avenue (Rt.27), Metuchen, N.J. Interment will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Linden, N.J. Born Dorothy Elizabeth Torppey in 1926 and raised in Newark, N.J., Dottie graduated from Arts High School. She worked for Hyatt Roller Bearing and married her one and only sweetheart, Roy Stevens, in 1948. They moved to Colonia in 1955 and raised their five children there. Dorothy was a member of Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Westfield, N.J. She was a homemaker and volunteered for many services over the years. She worked for 15 years as a home health aide for Middlesex County Visiting Nurses in New Brunswick, N.J. She was a Sunday School teacher, Girl Scout leader, den mother, and Pioneer Girls leader at Woodbridge Gospel Church. She loved to bake, sew, cook, read, and do crossword puzzles. She was happiest with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and will be missed by them. She was predeceased by her husband, Roy (1992); son, Jeff, and son-in-law, Ken, in 2013. She is survived by Jeff's wife, Diane; her children, Liz Zinze, Wes, Laurie and husband, Al Salvatore, and Dave and wife, Diane; grandchildren, Andrea and husband, Ian Venittelli, Amy, and Dana Zinze, and her four great-grandchildren, Anthony, Trevor, Olivia, and Connor. She is also survived by her brother, Jack Torppey, and wife, Ruth; sister, Patricia Cockerline; sister-in-law, Althea Storsberg, and many nieces and nephews.
