DOROTHY B. KINGAUGUST 7, 1919MARCH 8, 2007Dorothy B. King, age 87 of Sarasota, FL, died March 8, 2007.She is survived by her sister, Betty, of Chattanooga, TN; her son, George, and his wife, Sue, of Sarasota; her daughter, Toni Maurin of Palavas-les-Flots, France; her grandchildren, Kimberly King Houston of Birmingham, AL, Valerie Cunniff of Vineland, NJ, and Lucie Bard of Palavas-les-Flots; and her great-grandchildren, Kira and Logan Houston of Birmingham.Dorothy was born in Springfield, Missouri, and raised her children during World War II and the Korean War. She and her naval officer husband, George, lived in such far-flung places as Hutchinson, Kansas; Seattle, Washington; Brooklyn, New York; the Panama Canal Zone, and Washington, D.C., before retiring to Pensacola, Florida, in 1974.She brought up her children according to the principles of honesty, hard work, dignity, and respect for the rights of others. Dorothy also loved life, laughter, good books, and good movies, another legacy that she passed on to her children. She was an artful shopper and a superb dresser, with hobbies that included bridge, dancing, cooking, and sewing. Known to her children as "Honey," she will be remembered for many things, but especially her beautiful blue eyes, the lovely clothes that she sewed, and the fabulous desserts that she prepared with loving care. She will be buried with her husband in Barrancas National Cemetery.Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 14, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m.OAK LAWN FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
