TUSCALOOSA Dorothy Cleveland Swindle Dow, age 82, of Tuscaloosa, died May 27, 2008, at Park Manor Nursing Home. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Dr. Charles Durham officiating and Heritage Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 12:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman F. Dow; George W. Swindle, Jr.; Sam Swindle; Jimmy Swindle; and Thomas (Butch) Swindle.Survivors include her daughters, Mary Ellen Maguire of Mobile and Carolyn Lee Dow of Charlottesville, Va.; sister, Betty Barksdale of Tuscaloosa; brother, John B. Swindle of Huntsville; grandchildren, Andrew Maguire, Matthew Maguire, Philip Maguire, Margaret VanClief, and Courtney VanClief; and six great-grandchildren.She was born in Tuscaloosa, Ala. She graduated from Tuscaloosa High School, and attended the University of Alabama where she was a member of the Million Dollar Band. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church and its Music Ministry. Her community service included many years as a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. She was a talented musician, artist, and writer.Pallbearers will be Andrew D. Maguire, Matthew D. Maguire, Philip T. Maguire, Donald M. Self, Sammy Swindle, and Johnny Brewer.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church of Tuscaloosa.
