DAVID RITCHIE November 4, 1915 - Aberdeen, Scotland December 8, 2014 - Calgary, Alberta A hardworking gentleman with a pleasant smile and soft- spoken manner, David Ritchie, passed away peacefully at the Rockyview General Hospital on December 8, 2014 at the age of 99. David immigrated to Canada with his family at age 8 and lived in Toronto. He worked at Ryerson Press Publishing House for over 42 years starting at age 13. During that time David proudly served his country for over 5 years during WWII in France, Belgium and Holland, including 9 months in the Army of Occupation after the war ended. Shortly after returning home he married Doris Houston and continued to reside in Toronto where they raised their family. They built a cottage at Paudash Lake where many fond memories were forged over the years. Upon retirement, they moved to the lake, their tranquil paradise in the country. In 1994, they moved west to Calgary. He is survived by his daughters Carol (Fred) Boudreau of Lansdowne, Ontario and Sally (Robert) Whyte of Calgary; his grandchildren Ainsley and Gregory (Jessica) Boudreau, and Adam and Bradley Whyte; and his great-grandchild Dominic Boudreau, plus numerous nieces, nephews and their families. David was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years, Doris, in 2001; and his siblings Nathaline Holobeck, George and Douglas Ritchie, and Elsie McCluggage. A memorial service and interment with his wife will be at a later date in Ontario with family and friends. A very special t hanks to Glenn Cameron, friend and caregiver and the wonderful staff of "Vimy House" at the Colonel Belcher Veterans Care Centre in Calgary where Dad has resided for over 10 years and also to the compassionate staff of Unit 81 of the Rockyview Hospital.
