David F. Samuel, 78, died July 31, 2007, at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose, Calif. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived in Port St. Lucie for more than four years prior to moving to San Jose. He was retired from the Army. Before retirement, he was an educator with 30 years of service with the New York City Board of Education. He attended PS 129, graduating in 1942, and Boys High School. He furthered his education at Brooklyn College earning a bachelor's degree in psychology, and master's degrees in guidance and counseling. After moving to Port St. Lucie, he was a member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a gospel choir member and performed artistic tasks within the church. He was involved with the Port St. Lucie and Fort Pierce communities, the Treasure Coast Woodcarvers, ACEFFA, Caribbean American Cultural Group, the Martin County Art Society, Friends of the AE "Backus Gallery and Museum and Stuart Art Council. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn G. Samuel of San Jose; sons, Michael Samuel and Stephen Samuel, both of San Jose; and three grandchildren. The family is requesting no flowers. SERVICES: Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Aug. 10 at Stone Brothers Funeral Home in Fort Pierce. A service will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 11 at Mount Pleasant Primitive Baptist Church in Fort Pierce.
