LAKELAND -- Mr. David Larry Carr of Lakeland, who died Saturday (April 30, 2005) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center following a heart attack, formed strong relationships with family, friends and co-workers. He was 52.Born Sept. 22, 1952, in Fayetteville, N.C., he came here from there in 1975.While raising his children he coached their youth soccer and softball league teams, said Patricia Carr, his wife of 34 years."He did it because he was a wonderful teacher and loved young people," she said.The children saw Mr. Carr as a nurturing person. "He not only helped them with sports, but also with life lessons," she said.Mr. Smith enjoyed restoring old cars with his son, David L. Carr II. A 1967 Chevelle Super Sport convertible still sits in the garage."It was just a raggedy old car when he got it," his wife said. He and his son spent more than a year restoring the car, installing a new engine and giving it a paint job."He lived for today," David Carr II said.While Mr. Carr was in the hospital, co-workers and friends visited, and Mr. Carr made time for each one."He was just a good listener, a giving person," his wife said.He was a warehouse specialist for Sweetbay for five years. He was a member of Ardella Baptist Church, Lakeland.Mr. Carr is survived by his wife, Patricia Carr; son, David L. Carr II, Tampa; daughter, Becky Carr-Williamson, Lakeland; mother, Shirley Carr, Gastonia, N.C.; father and stepmother, Larry and Margilee Carr, Tampa; sister, Sharon Carr-Avants, Gastonia; and brother, Gary William Carr, Farmington, Mo.Visitation will be this evening from 6 to 8 at Lakeland Funeral Home.
