VASSALBORO -- Dana Arthur Johnson, of Vassalboro and Belgrade, died March 22, 2010, due to severe medical complications, at the age of 54.He was born May 12, 1954, in Augusta, the son of Arthur and Ruby (Allard) Johnson of Sidney. He graduated in 1973 from Messalonskee High School in Oakland, and then went on to graduate from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. He worked as police officer for the cities of Oakland and Waterville. Dana also volunteered as an emergency medical technician and volunteer firefighter. He was a public servant in the truest sense of the word. He worked hard to provide for the needs of his community.Dana loved his family and friends and was always willing to help, listen and be there for anyone in need. His compassion for others and sense of humor always made a smile appear on everyone's face. He was capable of anything and achieved everything that he set out to do. Dana had experiences as a carpenter, an airplane pilot, police officer, firefighter, security guard, scuba diver and father. In all of these areas he would always give 110 percent. Dana was one of a kind, the life of the party, and one who would be your friend for life. He was known for accomplishing tasks that those around him would state were impossible to achieve: skiing down icy mountains, scuba diving in cold murky waters, and building and flying his own plane. Dana will be sadly missed by those who knew him.In most recent years, Dana dedicated himself to caring for his wife through her challenges with cancer. Dana ensured that Ruth was comfortable and cared for all of her needs. He displayed dedication, loyalty and sacrifice.
