DEAUX, DOROTHY W.Dorothy Whitley "Nanny" Deaux, 82, went home to be with her Lord at 10:36 am on Friday July 9, 2010 surrounded by her four children and their families as she would have wanted. "Dot" was born 11th of 12 children of Leroy and Lydia Conway Thacker Whitley on August 17, 1927 in Portland, Tennessee. Growing up a farm girl, Dorothy graduated from Portland High School in 1945 and married Charles Duncan Deaux after he returned home from Europe at the end of WWII. The couple lived in Tennessee and Kentucky, adding to the family, until 1958 when they moved to Gainesville, where Duncan took a job at Sperry Rand and "Dot" became an avid Gator fan. Dorothy was a lifetime member of Highlands Presbyterian Church and although she worked for General Electric for a short time and was resident manager of the Millhopper Village Apartment complex, she was a stay-at-home Mom at heart, both to her own kids and also to any other "youngun" who needed a "Momma" or a "Nanny". This was her legacy, the reason her family has such a strong bond with each other, such a deep love for the Lord, and why she will be so dearly missed. Dorothy was preceded in death by Duncan, her loving husband of 41 years. She is survived by her daughters Connie Quincey (James) of Gainesville, Elaine Summers (Alan) of Harrogate, Tennessee, and her sons Jim (Becky Palmer) and Steve (Becky Owen) both living in Memphis, Tennessee, eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren (two more "on the way") and two great-great grandchildren, and countless other "precious younguns" we do not know. Services will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 4000 NW 53rd Ave, Gainesville, FL, on Monday July 12th at 11:00 am with a reception at the church to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Haven Hospice of Gainesville, 4200 NW 90th Blvd, Gainesville 32606.
