THOMAS Charney Leslie Thomas, 72, of Glen St. Mary Florida passed away February 23, 2008. Mr. Thomas was born in Glen St. Mary, FL to the late Charney Thomas and Nettie Harvey Thomas on September 7, 1935. He was a life long resident of Baker County. Mr. Thomas was always a hard worker. He worked for Winn Dixie as a meat market manager when he first got married and went on to own his own grocery business that he operated for seventeen years in Glen St. Mary FL. He then went full time at the church, where he felt he needed to dedicate his time fully. Pastor Thomas started out as a lay person in the church before accepting the deeper calling to become a minister. He was a choir leader, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent and a board member before becoming a pastor. He pastored at Sanderson Congregational Holiness Church, Freewill Tabernacle, Dinkins Congregational Methodist Church, Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church and then in early July, 1979, Christian Fellowship Temple. He was thought to be one of the longest serving ministers in Baker County. Pastor Thomas was a minister for forty four years. He was a devoted husband and family man. Other loves were gardening and being outdoors. He was predeceased by his wife of forty eight years, Betty L. Thomas Family members include his children: Nathan Thomas (Debbie) of Wildwood, FL, Keith Thomas (Cathy) of Glen St. Mary, FL, David Thomas (Mary Jo) of Macclenny, FL, Timmy Thomas (Patty) of Macclenny, FL and Joy Sirk (Eddie) of Glen St. Mary; brother: Bobby Thomas of Glen St. Mary, FL; sister: Nettie Ruth Rhoden of Macclenny, FL, eighteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at 2:00 pm at Christian Fellowship Temple in Macclenny, FL. with Pastor Gary Crummey officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, February 25, 2008 from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm at Christian Fellowship Temple in Macclenny, FL.
