OBITUARY CHARLES RICHARD WHALENMarch 19, 1929 - March 29, 2010It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Charlie Whalen at the age of eighty-one, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his loving wife, our mother, Grace (nee Charlebois), his sister Joan Bilodeau, and brother Gerald. He will be deeply missed by his friend and companion Dorothy Ward, and his children Debbie, Liz (John Hillis), Maureen (Dan Ryland), Richard (Lorna), his brother Hugh (Mary), sister Winnifred (Bob Emmett), sister-in-law Lise Whalen and brother-in-law Leo Bilodeau. He was a loving grampa to his five grandchildren: Kelly, Maggie, Spencer, Jessica and Evan. Dad graduated from the University of New Brunswick in 1952 with a degree in Civil Engineering, and spent his working life with the Canadian International Paper Company, ending his career in 1992 as the District Manager for the container division. Our smiling Dad will be fondly remembered for his gentle nature, kindness, generosity, and his ever-present good humour. Dad passed away peacefully, under the compassionate care of the staff and volunteers of the West Island Palliative Care Residence, to whom we are most grateful. Visitation will take place at the Collins Clarke MacGillivray White Funeral Home, located at 222 Autoroute 20, Pointe Claire, (514) 483-1870, on March 31, from 2 to 4 p.m., and 7 to 9 p.m.. Funeral Service will be April 1 at 11 a.m., reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the West Island Palliative Care Residence, 265 Andre Brunet, Kirkland, Quebec, H9H 3R4, would be greatly appreciated.
