MANCHESTER - Charles R. Carignan, 86, of Manchester, died Nov. 26, 2012, at the Hackett Hill Healthcare in Manchester following a long illness. He was born in Manchester on Feb. 25, 1926, the son of the late Charles and Anna (Chouinard) Carignan. He was raised and educated in Manchester. Charles served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Sanders DE40 in the Pacific Theater. Upon returning from war, he worked as a millwright for Arms and Waumbec Textiles. When Waumbec moved to Alabama, he went and set up the machine shop. Charles returned to Manchester and worked in maintenance at Pepsi Cola until he retired. He was blessed to have lived a wonderful life. Surviving family members include his son, Bill Carignan and his wife Gaye, of Manchester; two daughters, Susan Pinard and her husband Albert, of Goffstown, and Marlene Carignan of Allenstown; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and his sister, Vivian Panzieri of Auburn; brother in-law, Pickney "Oakie" Blankenship of New Hampshire; and two sisters-in-law, Lucille Carignan of Massachusetts, and Phyllis Carignan of New Hampshire. Mr. Carignan was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Arline O. (Beaulieu) Carignan, who died in 2010; his son, Charles A. Carignan; sister, Juliette Blankenship; and his three brothers, Adrien, Joseph and Ludger Carignan. The family of Charles Carignan would like to thank the staff the VA Medical Center and Hackett Hill for all the compassionate care and support they extended to Charles and his family. . services: There are no calling hours. A service is being planned in the spring at the N.H. State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charles' name can be made to Hackett Hill Healthcare, Petty Cash, Attn.: Jean Davis, 191 Hackett Hill Road, Manchester, 03102, or to the VA Medical Center, 718 Smyth Road, Manchester, 03104.
