CHARLES JOHN BOYER, 88Meter Reader SARASOTA - Charles John Boyer, 88, Sarasota and formerly of Winter Haven, passed away Feb. 15, 2010 after a long illness with COPD. He was born Feb. 28, 1921 in Duquesne, PA and worked in the steel mills before joining the navy during WWII as a gunner's mate. He had a career as a meter reader for FPL in Miami for 25 years before retiring to Winter Haven. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 8. He is survived by his twin sister, Charlotte J. Pratt of Hoffman Estates, IL, a brother, George S. Boyer of Bell Buckle, TN, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife, Gloria, and sisters Thelma Klotz of West Mifflin, PA and Leona Reddy of Kissimmee, FL. With no children of his own, "Uncle Bud" became a beloved member of the family and was host to reunions each year to celebrate his birthday with his sister. A Mass will be said in his honor at St. Patrick's Catholic church, followed by a private garden ceremony. He will be greatly missed.
