Charles J. Cavanagh HALIFAX Charles J. Cavanagh of Halifax and formerly of East Bridgewater died peacefully on March 18. He was age 96. Charles was born and raised in Quincy. He worked for 32 years as a crane operator at the Fore River Ship Yard in Quincy. First for Bethlehem Steel and then General Dynamics. Later he worked for the East Bridgewater Sanitation Dept. and retired after 12 years in 1975. Charles enjoyed retirement with his wife Winifred. They often traveled to Florida and spent a great deal of time at their summer home in Saquish Beach, Plymouth. He also enjoyed boating and spending time with his family. Charles was the devoted husband of the late Winifred (Hornstra) Cavanagh. Loving father of Elizabeth Betty Williams and her husband Avery Lee of North Easton, C. David and his wife Marcia M. Cavanagh, and Robert A. and his wife Carol A. Cavanagh all of East Bridgewater; loving grandfather of Kevin, Matthew, Brian, Billy and Erin; and loving great-grandfather of Dylan Cavanaugh. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 21st, at 10 a.m., at the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 35 Spring St., East Bridgewater, MA . Visitation from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Interment Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy. Donations in Charles memory may be sent to Gurnet-Saquish Assoc. c/o Anna Hartwick, 5 Catherine Ave., Billerica, MA 01821.
