Charles Edward Whitehead went to be with our Lord and Savior, Feb. 24, 2006. He was 77 years old.Visitation will be today, Feb. 25, 2006, from 6-8 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home.The funeral service will be Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Greenview Memorial Chapel, with burial to follow in Mount Tabor Cemetery.Officiating at the service will the Rev. Steve Jones and the Rev. Christopher Scott.He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He lived a loving, wonderful life. He was a member and deacon of Chisholm Heights Baptist Church.He loved people, animals and all of nature. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, gardening, old trucks and cars. He was a truck driver for 46 years; his handle was "No. 1 Slowpoke."He was the son of Oscar and Lessie Whitehead, and stepson of Nancy Whitehead, who preceded him in death, along with a son, Gregory Whitehead; two brothers, Solan Whitehead and "Little" Oscar; two sisters, Evelyn and Ruby Whitehead; and one great-grandson, Christian Andrew Daugherty.He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Mary Yvonne (Lawson) Whitehead; mother-in-law, Maggie Virginia Lawson; son, Darryl Whitehead and wife, Suzy; daughters, Donna Hall, Deborah Daugherty and her husband, Joe; brothers, Harold, Deleon and Troy Whitehead; eight grandchildren, Amber Welborn and husband, Daniel, Adam Whitehead, Todd English and wife, Gloria, Joey Daugherty and wife, Monica, Shane Daugherty and wife, Jennifer, Matthew Daugherty and wife, Lacey, Joshua Daugherty and wife, Heather, Jeremy Daugherty (Papa's Geronimo); five great-grandchildren, Kylee Welborn, Alex Melton, Emily Daugherty, Shayna Daugherty, Brendan Daugherty; four step-great-grandchildren, Kattie Benish, Laura, Brittney and Dustin Sprayberry.Pallbearers will be Shane, Matthew, Joshua, Jeremy Daugherty, Todd English, Rodger Whitehead, Adam Whitehead and Daniel Welborn.Honorary pallbearers will be Brett Whitehead, Joey Daugherty, Randall Whitehead and Wayne Whitehead.The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Scarborough and all the staff at Mitchell-Hollingsworth Nursing Home.
