Charles AllenPOUGHKEEPSIE - Charles Allen, 81, of the City of Poughkeepsie died June 19, 2011 at Victory Lake Nursing Home in Hyde Park, NY. Born on July 15, 1929 in Yonkers, NY, he was the son of the late Charles and Rose Brooks Allen. A Dutchess County resident for most of his life, Charles worked as a security guard for Western Publishing and Vassar College, from which he retired in 1994. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. On April 20, 1954 he married Margret Florance Denning in Hopewell Jct., NY. Margret predeceased him on July 17, 1994. Charles was a member of the Western Publishing Retirees Club and the American Legion Post 1302. He was an avid Yankee fan and loved Big Band music and being outdoors in the sunshine. He is survived by his Daughters, Christine Sickler and husband Bobby of Olive Bridge, NY, Mary Folster and husband Paul of Milton, NY and Lori Allen of Poughkeepsie, NY, a cousin Tom Brooks of Poughkeepsie, and four grandchildren; Wayne, Derek, Paul and Tiffany, and his companion, Miss Kitty. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2011 from 10:00 - 11:00am at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am, in the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery with Military Honors.
