MOTT - Carolyn Belle Thomas, was born July 25, 1907 in Brooklyn, NY, the 2nd daughter of Emmett Amos Thomas and Josie Woods Thomas. She was raised with her sister, Hazel, in Brooklyn; attended Savage School of Physical Education in NY City; and later taught school in Allendale, NJ. Carol married William M. Mott in October 1930, and moved to Rockville Centre, Long Island, NY. She was the mother of 3 children. Her oldest son Donald was a resident of Cary, NC until his death in 2009. She was also preceded in death by her husband, sister Hazel Aspinall, son Kenneth and an infant child.Carol and Bill were members of the Rockville Centre Congregational Church while living in RVC. Carol was an Eagle Scout, an Elder in the Presbyterian Church, a knowledgeable gardener and a gracious hostess. She and Bill moved to Springmoor Retirement Continuing Care Community in Raleigh, NC in 1988 and were members of a singing group called the "Hot Shots".Widowed after 61 years of marriage, she continued her involvement in the Springmoor community by starting a recycling program, knitting baby caps for the hospital, baking muffins and visiting residents who were less able to get around, as well as greeting new residents to Springmoor. Carol is survived by her daughters-in-law Janice Mott and Suzanne Rudizelle (Maurice); 5 grandchildren, Cathy Roth, Jennifer Weaver (Randy), Douglas Mott, Leslie Mott, Roger Mott (Windy), and 7 great-grandchildren, Chris Mott, Kellie Vinal, Jessica Daniel, Wesley Vinal, Bryson Weaver, Chase Weaver and Savannah Weaver. Carol's family is especially thankful for the outstanding care given to her by the medical team at Stewart Health Center at Springmoor. A memorial service will be held in the Springmoor Auditorium on Friday, October 12 at 3 pm. Contributions in Carol's name may be made to the Springmoor Endowment Fund which had special meaning for her.
