CLAIRE (GIROUX) BRISSETTE - BURLINGTON - At 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 14, 2014, a wonderful spirit left this world. Claire Brissette was born April 25, 1944, to Herman and Geneva Giroux. She was raised in the Old North End of Burlington with two brothers and two sisters. Claire was predeceased by her two brothers, Richard and Roger. She is survived by her sisters, Jeannine Reed of Colchester and her children, Shawn Reed, Scott Reed and wife, Laura, and Shelly O'Brien and husband, Peter; and sister, Doris Courville of Burlington and her children, Claire Ratushny and husband, Jan, Jeannine Handy and husband, Joe, and Jackie Courville. Claire is also survived by her adoring husband, Sam Brissette, of Colchester; daughter, Sandra Fontaine and partner, Dennis Cassidy, of Highgate; son, Robert Stone and partner, Lisa Little, of Essex; and four grandchildren, Nicole Fontaine of Highgate, Savannah Davis, Isaac Davis, and Charlie Davis of Freeburg, Ill. Claire was a very enthusiastic person and she excelled in whatever she set her mind to. Her first challenge was Tupperware. She decided to be the most successful dealer this state had ever seen, and she exceeded that goal by becoming the 10th best manager in the entire country. After her very successful Tupperware career, she became a distributor for Vanda Beauty Counselor cosmetics. She was very successful and was growing her business right up to the time the company folded. She then put her talents to use in helping to build The Creative Touch, the high quality furniture restoration business Sam still operates in Colchester. In 1998, Claire realized her dream of opening a Victorian gift shop, "Claire's Parlor" in the Town Marketplace. It was here that she was able to utilize the full range of her creativity and her love of people. She made many, many friends, but what really gave her the most pleasure was the formation of "Ms. Claire's Fairy Club." This was for little girls of all ages and every week she and Sam would write a Fairy Story and send it to all the members with a little "Fairy Dust" in each envelope. And then there were the "Magical Fairy Tea Parties," which were held at the Holiday Inn or the Lincoln Inn. Ms. Claire was very sad when she found she had brain cancer and could no longer manage her wonderful store. Claire successfully completed her battle with cancer and took advantage of the time she had left by spending it with family and friends and enjoying the gourmet meals she loved to prepare. Claire's family would like to thank everyone at Redstone Villa Nursing Home in St. Albans for their professional and especially compassionate care. Visiting hours and gathering in her memory will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Elmwood-Meunier Funeral Home, 97 Elmwood Avenue.
