Graveside service for Charles C. Johnson, 101, of Decatur will be Saturday, Sept. 2, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Decatur City Cemetery with the Rev. Roger Jenkins officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.Visitation will be Saturday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Johnson, who died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2006, at his residence was born Aug. 25, 1905, in Waverly, Pa., to Charles W. Johnson and Edith Wilson Johnson. He joined the Decatur Branch Laboratory of the Alabama Department of Public Health in 1926 as a bacteriologist. He was made director of the brand lab in 1932 following the retirement of Dr. Andrew Perolio and remained in that capacity until his retirement in 1975. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his wives, Imogene Lee Johnson and Mary Darnell Johnson. Survivors include his daughter, Claudia Wilson Williams of Decatur; three grandchildren, Jenny Smith and her husband, Gerald, of Ardmore, Tenn., Amanda Carter and her husband, Kevin, of Seymour, Ind., and Will Williams and his wife, Miranda, of Hazel Green; and seven great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Kevin Carter, Gerald Smith, Matthew Smith and Will Williams.
